While his knowledge of fighting isn't great, he is familiar with biology, and he knows a hit to the solar plexus means hitting the diaphragm, which can knock the air out of a person's lungs. Landing that means he could follow up with another attack - maybe a kick into the nearest wall? Or sending him flying into those other gang members - he isn't sure, but his mind is eagerly running through the potential options.]
